About Jon & Owen - The Passing Zone

The Passing Zone is a renowned comedy act featuring Jon Wee and Owen Morse, who are experts on what it takes to be a high-performance team. Their partnership literally demonstrates trust, innovation, collaboration, communication and execution all with big laughs, wild stunts, and hilarious audience participation. After meeting at a juggling convention, and finishing college (Jon in economics and Owen in psychology) they began their professional journey, quickly winning the Silver and Gold Medals at the International Jugglers' Association Teams Competition. This success led to their debut on “The Tonight Show”, followed by another appearance due to Johnny Carson’s enthusiasm. Their film debut was in The Addams Family Movie, doubling for Raul Julia and Christopher Lloyd.

Showcasing innovation, leadership development, and teamwork through their presentations, they gained further acclaim performing at the Royal Variety Performance in London for then Prince Charles, on the Miss America Pageant and at The White House. They were finalists on “America’s Got Talent” in Seasons 1 and 11, showcasing their comedic and juggling prowess. Their television appearances include “The Tonight Show", "Penn & Teller: Fool Us” “MADtv,” “Penn & Teller’s Sin City Spectacular,” “Steve Harvey’s Big Time,” and regular slots on NBC’s “Today.” They also provided commentary for ESPN’s World Juggling Federation competitions.

Jon & Owen hold four Guinness World Records, have received the IJA’s Award of Excellence and are in the National Speakers Association Speaker Hall of Fame. Performing at corporate and association events, they are known for their clean, versatile act that appeals to diverse audiences. They customize performances to include company products and slogans, inspiring collaboration and creativity.

Residing in the greater Los Angeles area, Jon and Owen enjoy spending time with their families and engaging in activities like hang gliding, surfing, mountain biking, and motorcycling.

    • There are two (2) files. Jon and Owen will identify which one to use on-site. 

    Jon & Owen's Technical Requirements 

    Jon & Owen's Technical Requirements  - Live Events

    Jon & Owen require approx. 1 hour for setup and sound check.  A sound & lighting technician is required to be present for the sound check AND during the presentation.  

    Jon & Owen will bring:
    • Headset microphones (Countryman E6). 
    Customer Provides:
    • Two (2) Shure belt pack transmitters.

    • Required Stage Size: 24 feet long by 18 feet deep

      • Absolute minimum stage size is 18 feet long by 16 feet deep). 

      • NOTE: if risers are being used, the sections must be firmly attached, either by taping the cracks between sections, or clamping sections beneath the stage. Jon & Owen do not perform on the floor.

    • On Stage: one (1) small, cocktail-sized table (30 inch diameter) with black drape.

    • Ceiling Height: at least 15 feet above stage level for a full/complete presentation.

      • NOTE: if ceiling height is lower, please notify Jon & Owen's assistant to discuss ceiling height.  

    • Soundboard Systems: must have four (4) separate channels, one for each microphone, plus two (2) for the computer or music player that controls their music.
    • Laptop/Computer: for playing music tracks. 

    • MUSIC & Cues: CLICK HERE to download music files and cue sheet. 

      • Please download prior to sound check/rehearsal.  

    • Lighting: front lighting must be direct lighting, or basic stage lighting, or portable stage lighting, or a combination of the above.  Overhead lighting (i.e. normal room lighting, fluorescent lights, etc.) is not acceptable.

      • The wash must cover entire stage, including the area from stage deck to 15 feet above stage deck, in order to illuminate objects being thrown into the air.  

      • Backlighting from above or below is also necessary. The simplest setup is 2 par cans on floor plates, placed on the upstage corners aimed downstage center and toward the ceiling.
    • Audience: should be as close to the stage as possible - no more than 10 feet from the stage ensures the best possible engagement.
    • Water: please provide six (6) bottles of water for drinking.
    • Green Room: Jon & Owen require a dressing room for costume changes. 
      • NOTE: if the event is in the same hotel where Jon & Owen are staying, no green room is required.
    • NOTE: a professional sound technician must be available during sound check/rehearsal as well as the presentation, to rehearse cues and play music tracks. 

    Premium Experience with Knife Throwing/Pie in the Face Technical Requirements 

    • SETUP AND SOUND CHECK: In addition to the one hour sound check, a separate 90 minutes will be required to set up the pendulum with a dedicated space in the room were the performance takes place. A sound & lighting technician is required to be present for the sound check.

    • STAGE SETUP:

      There should be a stage. The Passing Zone does not wish to

      perform on the floor unless absolutely necessary.

      A. The ideal stage size is 24 feet long by 24 feet deep

      (Minimum 18 feet long by 16 feet deep). If risers are being used, the sections must be firmly attached to each other, either by taping the cracks between sections, or clamping sections beneath the stage.

      B. Provide one small, cocktail-sized table (30 inch diameter) with black drape on the stage for use in Box Routine.

      C. Pendulum apparatus has a footprint of 6.5 feet square and is 10 feet tall. Apparatus may be concealed off stage until needed, then rolled into position. There must be a 7 foot wide path for the apparatus to travel onto the stage from the side or backstage. If there is no side or backstage, the apparatus may stay on stage throughout the performance. An additional option is to have four stage hands lift apparatus on and off stage. There must also be an adjacent area for The Passing Zone to assemble the apparatus for use. Often times this can be done in the same room, with an open space cleared when the room is empty.

    •  CEILING HEIGHT:  

      The ceiling should be at least 15 feet above stage level in order for The Passing Zone to perform a full show. A slightly shorter show will be performed if ceiling height is lower.

      The Passing Zone can do 40-45 minutes with only an 8 or 9 foot ceiling. Please notify The Passing Zone or their Agent if height will be less than 15 feet so Jon and Owen can make necessary preparations. Feel free to call and discuss location and height requirements if you have any questions.

    • MICROPHONES: 

      The Passing Zone brings their headset

      microphones (Countryman E6) They will require two Shure belt pack transmitters. (The Passing Zone does not travel with belt pack transmitters, receivers, soundboard or speakers.) Your soundboard system must have four (4) separate channels, one for each microphone, plus two (2) for computer or music player that controls our music.

    • MUSIC/SOUNDTRACK & CUE SHEET

      A computerized system should be provided to play music tracks.

      The music tracks should be downloaded in advance, and prepared to play via computerized playback system.The Passing Zone will bring music tracks on a thumb drive as an emergency back up.

      A professional sound technician should be on hand during rehearsal as well as the performance, to rehearse cues (please have cue sheet on hand-found at the link above) and play tracks during performance as well as adjust microphone levels.

    • LIGHTING: 

      Front: Lighting must be direct lighting, or basic stage lighting, or portable stage lighting, or a combination of the above. Overhead lighting (i.e. normal room lighting, fluorescent lights, etc.) is not acceptable. The wash must cover entire stage, including the area from stage deck to 15 feet above stage deck, in order to illuminate objects being thrown into the air.

      Back: Backlighting from above or below is also necessary. The simplest setup is 2 par cans on floor plates, placed on the upstage corners aimed downstage center and toward the ceiling. Thus, when performers are facing the audience, throwing objects into the air, the objects are lit from behind.

       

    • DRESSING ROOM: If the performance takes place in the hotel where The Passing Zone is staying, then no dressing room is necessary. If the hotel and performance venue are in different locations, a dressing room should be provided.

    • WATER: Please provide six (6) bottles of water for drinking.
    • AUDIENCE: The audience should be seated close to the stage (in most situations, no more than 10 feet). There should not be a dance floor or other wide space separating the audience from the stage.
    • (OPTIONAL) FIRE:  The Passing Zone is able to use fire in their performance, if permitted. Purchaser or Production Company must make necessary arrangements with the venue to secure approval of the use of fire. The Passing Zone can provide you with additional information and description of the performance for your use in gaining approval. If there are any costs or fees (ie permit application fees) associated with use of fire they are the sole responsibility of the Purchaser.

    • COLEMAN FUEL (only for fire performances): Due to airline restrictions, The Passing Zone cannot bring with them, and therefore must be provided with, a one (1) gallon container of Coleman fuel (white gas, camping fuel). This can be found at Target or WalMart type stores, hardware stores, sporting goods stores, and is usually in a rectangular, red and silver, one-gallon can. 

      (Note: If fire is not being used, the Coleman fuel is not necessary. Coleman fuel is for juggling fire, not chain saws. Purchaser does not need to provide gas for chain saws.)

     

    Corporate Performance with People Juggling Technical Requirements 

    *People Juggling TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS ARE IN ADDITION TO STANDARD TECHNICAL RIDER REQUIREMENTS

    • Staging: A minimum stage performance area of 24’x 24’ is required, as well as 18’ of ceiling height above the stage.

    • VOLUNTEERS (“Jugglenauts”) : Height: 5’3 - 6’3”, Weight: 100 - 200 lbs.

    • PEOPLE - JUGGLING RIGGING REQUIREMENTS:

      The Passing Zone brings a 12” X 20” swivel plate (Figure 2) to connect to the bottom of an aluminum box truss. This plate must be rigged so that it is:

      17’ 3” above the stage Centered left to right.

      • Minimum 10’ from the front edge of the stage

      • Minimum 12’ from the back curtain or wall

      • It must not swing or sway, because the weight of 3 people (up to 600 lbs.) will be from this point.

    • Rigging can be accomplished in several ways, the most proven and inexpensive method being the use of a dead hung box truss (provided by the production or rigging company) with guy lines run down to the stage or floor. However, each production company may have different capabilities and ideas about how rigging will work best in any given venue. The Passing Zone is open to all possibilities but reserves the right to final approval of every technical aspect of production.

    • The Passing Zone will supply the swivel mechanism. Rigging materials will need to be provided by purchaser’s production or rigging company. Please contact Josh Casey, Technical Director for The Passing Zone (contact info on last page), to discuss the optimal approach for your venue.

    • Rigging a Truss from the Ceiling: 

      • 12” or 20” box truss only
      • Bottom of truss must trim at 17’ 3” above stage
      • ~600 pound live load max
      • Dead Hung or with Motors (½ ton single phase are ideal)
      • Beam clamps may be used for rigging points. Min 2000 pound Working Load Limit
       

    • Guy Lines: Guy lines must be taut and anchored to stage, structural steel or temporary ballast such as stage weights, sandbags, concrete barriers or water ballast (min 600 pounds per corner). Ballast must not slide. Lag to floor or provide non-slip surface such as neoprene mat.

      • Ratchet straps in conjunction with wire rope or turnbuckles may be used to tension assembly if Working Load Limit is at least 1,500 pounds.

      • Screw-in floor anchors may be used.

      • In certain cases, guy lines may be rigged inan upward direction and anchored to structural steel in the ceiling. Please contact technical director for more information.
